Is this man Guernsey’s meanest thief?
Saturday 6th September 2008, 9:51AM BST.
This man was caught on CCTV shortly before a ram-raider stole charity tins from Venture Garage. (0634213)
POLICE yesterday released further CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in relation to a ram raid at Venture Garage last week.
They have been given a number of names for the person suspected of carrying out the theft and are now narrowing down the suspects.
Yesterday’s release of a further image is part of that process and officers hope islanders will be able to identify the man above – widely regarded as Guernsey’s most heartless thief – and secure a successful prosecution.
Charity boxes containing cash that was to be donated to the GSPCA in memory of former garage employee Ben Davies, were stolen when a Peugeot 306 saloon was driven through the shop doors.
Police are keen to identify the man who was captured on CCTV at the garage last Saturday at about 10.20pm. They also want to trace the whereabouts of the Peugeot 306, registration 33708, between 10.20pm and 11.25pm that day.
It was used to smash open the door and was found ablaze afterwards in a nearby lane. They want to speak to anyone who was near the garage forecourt between 8pm and 10pm.
