Men aim to retain Burton
Saturday 6th September 2008, 9:29AM BST.
GUERNSEY will have most of their male stars out in force this afternoon in the State Street Inter-Insular.
Island Games gold medallists such as Dale and Lee Garland, Tom Druce and Lee Merrien (pictured) will feature prominently as the hosts attempt to retain the Burton Challenge Cup in the men’s team match at Foote’s Lane.
However, the women’s squad has been hit by injuries, with Kimberley Goodall and Helen Hadjam among those affected.
Middle-distance stars Sarah Mercier, Louise Perrio and Martine Scholes will be in action, though.
Jersey will be defending the Combined Trophy, having won the overall match 630-576 at FB Fields a year ago.
Today’s action starts at 1pm and finishes at 5 and incorporates the under-11s and under-15s as well as the seniors.
Tomorrow it is the turn of the under-13s and under-17s. The first event is at 11.30am and the final one is due off at 2.45pm.
