‘We’ve reclaimed Baubigny’s roads for the vulnerable’
Saturday 6th September 2008, 9:30AM BST.
BAUBIGNY has been reclaimed for vulnerable road users, according to Living Streets secretary Pat Wisher.
The pressure group campaigned tirelessly for safer roads around the schools – which included the one-way system, raised pavement and cycle path – and she said the results were a huge success.
‘I’m overwhelmed by it all because I never thought we would get it. There was such a lot of opposition to the one-way system and I never thought we would get here so full marks to the Environment Department for doing it,’ she said.
Mrs Wisher, pictured, walked the route a year ago one morning when the road was still two-way.
‘It was horrendous. There were no more than about 10 students walking back then.’
She said the new wide pavements meant students could walk easily in groups.
