SOME of Liverpool’s greatest footballers will play island legends today in a charity match.
This is the second year that the Liverpool Legends team has taken part in the event and last night took part in a dinner and auction to raise money for the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
Organiser Brian Evans said it was a great opportunity for islanders to see some famous players in action and to help charity at the same time. Last year the Legends match raised more than £26,500 for Help a Guernsey Child and Les Bourgs Hospice.
‘This year it’s totally for the Cheshire Home,’ he said. ‘Last year I met Gavin Marsh [a Liverpool fan and resident of the home]. His dream was to go to Anfield so we took him there in September. We then realised how little support the Cheshire Home gets from the Guernsey community, so this year we decided all the money would go to them.’
* The match kicks off at 7pm at the Track. For further information visit www.lfcguernsey.com.
