First PSA title for delighted Simpson
Wednesday 10th September 2008, 2:29PM BST.
CHRIS SIMPSON has won the first Professional Squash Association title in convincing fashion.
The Guernsey star, 21 (pictured), defeated Yassir Butt of Pakistan 11-3, 12-10, 11-1 in yesterday’s final of the Taiwan Open at the National Taiwan University Sports Center, Tapei.
‘I played really well and am incredibly happy as with this match I managed to overturn many losses that I had against him in the juniors as he was world number two at my age group,’ said Simpson.
‘This is my first PSA title as well as my first tournament back from injury, so I couldn’t be happier with the result.
‘Next week I go to Houston for another one-star event where I am eighth seed, then the week after I play a four-star event in Baltimore before the Irish Open and World Open in Manchester.’
The BCD & SMH Houston Open starts on Tuesday and Simpson has been drawn to face a qualifier in the first round.
