A COUPLE being evicted from a States house said they will move, but only if they have somewhere suitable to go. Glyn and Anne Wallace, who have lived at Les Genats since 1987, are being evicted because they earn too much.

‘We’ve four cats, two birds and a dog and we both smoke,’ said Mr Wallace. ‘When I phoned around the estate agents, they said we didn’t have a hope of finding somewhere else.’

The couple were unsuccessful with an appeal against the Housing Department’s decision. ‘We don’t dispute what we are earning and we’ve offered to move to a one-bedroom place, but Housing will have none of it,’ said Mr Wallace.

They earn £746 per week and pay £808 per month for the three-bedroom house. The States housing earnings limit for a couple is £524.

Mr Wallace, who works for Guernsey Water, will be 61 in January and plans to retire at 65. His wife is 54.
