Feedback is sought from victims of domestic violence
Thursday 11th September 2008, 11:30AM BST.
A PIONEERING new process will ask victims of domestic abuse for their feedback. Launched yesterday, the domestic abuse strategy looks at how society can help those suffering.
About 700 reports of domestic violence and abuse are made to the Guernsey Police every year. It accounts for two out of five cases of violence in the island.
‘People should realise that it’s a substantial problem within the community,’ said Deputy Hunter Adam (pictured), who is chairing the strategy. ‘It has to be dealt with in a positive and secure way.’
The policy has had the input from several local organisations which deal with those affected by domestic abuse and violence. Options and the Women’s Refuge had direct involvement in putting together the strategy, which aims to get organisations and States departments to work together.
