‘There’s room for competition’

GUERNSEY could support further mobile phone competition, according to Airtel. The comments were made last night by the company’s chief executive, Iain Williamson, at an environmental meeting held at the OGH.
Mr Williamson’s views were met with opposition from Deputy David De Lisle. ‘We have three mobile phone companies in the island. How much more can we take before we have a saturated environment?’ said Deputy De Lisle.
However, Airtel feels there is an option for more operators. ‘If a company thinks it can make money here, there could be more competitors,’ said Mr Williamson.
‘There is an appetite in the market and the potential for more competition.’
Mr Williamson went on to say that Airtel could have 100% mobile phone reach in Guernsey by 2009.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
As a regular visitor to the island and a Vodafone subscribor I feel the level of service needs to be improved first.
Often I have been off the island a couple of days before text messages sent whilst I was in Guernsey come through and also it is rare to get called ID when roaming in Guernsey although it works in every other country I go to.
Perhaps it is Vodafone but the services when on the Island are certainly below par.
