Desperques excels on the fast tables

MARTYN DESPERQUES’S brilliant form was the major plus point from Guernsey’s overall performance at the Home Internationals in Prestatyn.
While the six-man team recorded one victory from their seven matches to finish sixth in the overall table, Desperques (pictured) collected scalp after scalp, winning 15 out of 21 frames, despite an opening defeat to tournament winners England.
Although falling one short of his personal target, Desperques was content with his return.
‘To actually get the frames I did was great. I went down 3-0 in the first match against England when I was still getting used to the tables, so from there to drop only another three out of 18 is pretty impressive, I guess.’
Reflecting on the tournament, team manager Tom Brock agreed.
‘The standard was, as we thought, extremely high but the team coped well in what were very different playing conditions to what we are used to.’
