GUERNSEY Chauffeur Drive has failed in its legal bid to have its suspended bus licence reinstated. Judge Russell Finch was presiding in the Royal Court and the jurats took just over 15 minutes to reject its appeal because in their view the Environment Department had not acted in an unreasonable manner in revoking it.

Speaking after the ruling, director Terry Le Maitre said he was unsure where it left the company. ‘We’re going to have to see if we can ask for a review of this decision, because I don’t know at the moment.

‘But my view won’t change. Environment was unreasonable. The speed at which they revoked the licence was the biggest problem,’ he said.

Guernsey Chauffeur Drive had operated a late-night weekend double-decker service from St Peter Port to L’Ancresse and St Martin’s. It had its road service licence revoked by the department on 27 June.  That was followed on 31 July by the revocation of the remaining road service licences held by the company, along with all its public service vehicle licences.

It is a shame about the night bus because it was a lot cheaper than a taxi. Maybe someone else will take it over who knows what they are doing.
