Former judo instructor Eugene Hughes, who has been jailed for indecent assaults on young girls.
EUGENE HUGHES’S vile crimes were finally brought to justice when he ogled one of his victims’ children by chance in Town.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, had been walking up the High Street with her 18-month-old daughter when she spotted her abuser going the other way. She hadn’t seen him for years and was unsure if he had recognised her.
‘My heart was thumping and my head was spinning – it’s difficult to explain how I felt,’ said the woman, now 24. ‘When I glanced to the side his head was turned and he was looking at my daughter and smirking. My stomach was churning.’
The encounter made the woman decide to tell Hughes how she would never forget what he had done to her. When she sought police advice on the best way to do it, she ended up making a formal complaint. By coincidence her decision came just before other women who had suffered at his hands decided to come forward.
Last week, the 80-year-old was jailed for six-and-half years after he admitted eight counts of indecent assault on girls between the ages of seven and 14 between 1987 and 1996. Two other offences were taken into account in the sentencing. The case related to offences against five different girls, all now adults.

I am not on his side at all, but I have to ask WHY? have you waited so long this report to come to the public view…..
Look let me put this another way, I was the victim of attempted rape from a man (when was then a young man) I have not said any thing. Why well I don’t know! Shame may be, but I don’t think I will say any thing. OK he has got away with it, but making a prosecution after all this time what good will it do.
Look at it in another way it is awful the survivors of the holocaust ….The evil & The good but at the end of the this day there are Not many left either way.
But The pain is still there, as we well know!
What will it achieve taking some old sod to court in there late years, better in there early years so one can take there soul away, not at the end of there life. In fact they don’t care by then, there OLD…!!!!

6 and a half years !! What length of time’s that for such a vile man. They should lock him up and throw away the key or better still…….bring back hanging !!

Why send them to prison is your question?
The glaringly obvious answer is to stop them from hurting others.
Other reasons may be:
For punishment
To bring some form of justice for the victims
Recognition that what they did is wrong
Public humiliation
Understanding and empathy from others for the victims so they can try to rebuild what is left of their lives
etc etc etc
Have you ever thought that the person who tried to rape you may have had many subsequent victims and may be still offending? Even if you think they are physically unable peds can always access the internet and keep committing their sick offences hurting millions of innocent children everyday.

I am one of the victims of his abuse, the one that first came forward to the police and firstly i have to say how disgusted i am by John Blatchfords comments. I cannot believe that anyone could defend a man who inflicted such sick torture on us CHILDREN, i dont want to speak for the other victims as only each individual knows the terrible pain they went through and are still going through, but i personally have had my life destroyed by this EVIL man, I was a child, an INNOCENT child, and that man used his position to abuse me for 5 years, he took away my childhood and noone can EVER give that back to me,even if the court had given him life, it would NEVER have been enough,But i personally have some comfort now knowing that he will NEVER be able to take away another childs life,And that hopefully my 4 year old daughter and her generation will not have to suffer at the hands of these sick people. So MR Blatchford next time you think this man is a nice guy, just try to put yourself in our shoes for just one minute and imagine the sheer ignorance of comments that you have made.

you seem to be a very black and white person “john” bring back hanging you say. whilst i agree that what he has done is a dreadful thing to call another person scum is not something i would do, im extremely grateful that we are generally a christian society and jesus came to give us ALL a second chance. and im pointing the finger at myself, no-one else here , i know ive done wrong things in life and im glad my god forgives me.

There’s too many do-gooders in the world. He is SCUM and should be hanged. Where is Jesus and his second chances for the victims ? I bet H doesn’t feel as if she has had a second chance. I also bet that none of his victims would want to give him a second chance. I strongly believe that scum like this only take one second chance and that is to carry out the same disgusting crime on someone else.
