GUERNSEY’s top clubs are understood to have been told of the Guernsey United development at a meeting called by the Guernsey Football Association on Sunday evening.

Officials of Guernsey United had planned to keep news of its project under wraps for several more weeks yet as they sought to confirm sponsorship of the team and complete their plans.

But when the Guernsey Football Association board chose to announce it to a meeting of club presidents, the new club felt compelled to issue today’s release.

The new team have gone as far as registering as a limited company and have presented their plans to the Culture and Leisure department as they seek to tie up a deal to use the Foote’s Lane Stadium as their home pitch.

Discussions with the Kent League about playing in their Premier Division from the start of the 2009-10 season are ongoing.
