‘It’s your island, so help us to shape its future’

gt_logo_th.jpgIslanders are being asked to help shape the future of their home. Today sees the launch of Guernsey Tomorrow – aimed specifically at the next generation.

The initiative is an unprecedented consultation from the Policy Council’s strategic land planning group which is reviewing the States Strategic Land Use Plan: how we live on and use the land. This will set the framework for the Urban and Rural Area plans. On Saturday, more than 60 invited guests will meet at Les Cotils to take part in an interactive workshop.

‘We want to know what people think about the way that the island is changing. By working with islanders, we want to find the best options for the way forward,’ said Bernard Flouquet, deputy chief minister and chairman of the strategic land planning group.

The meeting is not for politicians: members from many of the island’s non-government organisations will discuss development pressures, opportunities and constraints facing the island, both now and over the next 20 years.

‘Saturday is just the start of the consultation,’ said Deputy Flouquet.
