A GUERNSEY girl could become the face of the WI – with islanders’ help. Emma Cunningham is among the final shortlisted 10 in a competition which could see her crowned W-Icon.

‘I really didn’t expect to get past the first round. I’m absolutely thrilled,’ she said. The competition is posted on the Daily Express website today and a combination of votes from a celebrity panel, including singers Kim Wilde and Cerys Matthews, and the public will determine the winner.

The 35-year-old mother-of-two shot to fame earlier this month when she was named in national newspapers as president of the UK’s sexiest WI.

The 72 federations each put forward one member for the competition. As one of the final 10, former Guernsey Press reporter Miss Cunningham had to make a two-minute video to be seen by the panel.

‘I thought how can I make something which will stand out to the judges, so I made my own version of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and changed some of the words for new WI lyrics.’ The video sees Miss Cunningham running around the house trying to incorporate as many WI activities as possible.  ‘It’s the cheesiest, most hilarious thing you’ll probably see all year,’ she said.
