FOUR Guernsey girls have been invited to compete in one of the most prestigious competitions of the season.
The British Grand Prix is an invitation-only, gold-status event for which the top 32 players in the England Squash ranking system within each age category are chosen to take part.
Issey Norman-Ross, Natalie Dodd and Katherine Jensen all competed last year, having reached the top 10 of the U-15, U-17 and U-13 ranking lists respectively. Amy Stenner has also been invited this year for the first time.
Ben Rosec, the new director of island squash, said: ‘For four of our junior girls to be eligible for this prestigious competition is a great start to the season. Each has worked hard with their coaches, Martin Watts and Peter Bridgeman, to achieve their current rankings.
‘It’s never easy to cope with a major competition at the start of the season added to the fact that the scoring system has also changed to a point a rally to 11, which will make the games more intense with little room for errors or lack of concentration.’
