AN ANNOUNCEMENT on the futures of St Andrew’s Primary and St Sampson’s Infants is to be made on Wednesday.

Education minister Carol Steere confirmed yesterday that the department’s board was due to meet on Tuesday to make its decision after receiving presentations from both schools earlier this week.

They have been closure targets for much of the past year, with Education claiming pupil numbers had fallen to such an extent that it is no longer appropriate to retain them with the budget it has available.

0523762.jpgDeputy Steere said it was likely the announcement would be made to the States, but that depended on the Bailiff giving the go-ahead for her to do so. Head teachers would be informed beforehand, she added.

‘We will be taking a decision on Tuesday and communicating it as soon as possible because as a board we are very conscious of the impact uncertainty has on the staff and pupils of the schools.’
