SAM HERRIDGE got over her inter-insular disappointment by making the podium in the British Grand Prix Triathlon Series and finishing strongly in the Vienna European Cup.

Both races come off the back of a month of racing, which should have seen Vets 4 Pets and La Grande Mare Hotel sponsored athlete also compete in the inter-insular in Jersey if it was not for some bad luck.

‘Unfortunately I managed to get stuck on a slip road trying to get onto the A30 on my way to Plymouth Airport as a lorry had jack-knifed on the dual carriageway, effectively stopping the traffic for around two hours,’ she said.

‘Therefore I missed my flight and with no other flights near me going to Jersey at that time, missed the chance to join the Guernsey team. I was really disappointed, as I was looking forward to catching up with old friends and racing hard.’

However, this disappointment was soon forgotten when she finished a creditable eighth in the Supersprint Eliminator race in Strathclyde and  third place in the British Grand Prix series.
