Non-finance firms state their case
Monday 22nd September 2008, 2:30PM BST.
BUSINESS leaders spoke up for the non-finance industry companies at a high-profile seminar on Friday.
Aurigny boss Malcolm Hart and Specsavers managing director John Perkins (pictured) said there was more to consider in Guernsey than just finance.
They were speaking at an Image Group seminar entitled Guernsey – A Positive Future? to coincide with the Financial Times’s special report on Guernsey published on the same day.
Responding to the question, Is Guernsey dominated by the finance industry?, Mr Perkins said he thought it was but that that was not necessarily a bad thing. ‘Non-finance companies can use it to their advantage because not everyone wants to work in finance.
‘All we ask for is a level playing field. We are hugely helped out by Commerce and Employment but would like more of an understanding that there are other sectors out there with a part to play.’
