LAST year, she was told she was going to die because of a lung condition. Yesterday, Susie Crowson was taking part in the Cardiac Action Group’s Red Dress Run along with around 200 other people.

‘They had called my family around and said I wasn’t going to make it,’ said the 56-year-old.

‘Someone introduced me to Breathe Easy, then Life Fit, and they have practically brought me back from the dead. My lungs are well protected because of muscle exercises.’

She had smoked since she was seven, gave up four years ago and then became seriously ill. ‘My heart was part of the damage: it had doubled in size. You realise in an emergency how lucky you are in Guernsey. You get help. You never know when you are going to need it.’

She was setting off on an attempt to walk the five-mile course.
