Bits fly from the Honda Integra of John George after his high-speed touring car race crash at Brands Hatch.
A GUERNSEY resident was airlifted to hospital after he was involved in a 100mph crash while competing in the final round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship on Sunday.
ITV4 viewers saw John George’s Honda Integra hurtle into the crash barriers at Brands Hatch after his car came into contact with fellow racer Darren Turner’s Seat Leon.
‘I was moving to the right for an approaching left turn and didn’t realise Darren was there,’ he said. ‘I was in fifth gear at the time, flat out, but I didn’t notice my speed. I expect I was approaching 100mph when I hit the barrier. Darren called me up to see how I was doing, which was very nice.’
Mr George was flown to hospital by helicopter. He suffered severe bruising and was kept in for observation. He expects to be released today.
The 47-year-old Cornish mobile phone tycoon has lived in the Castel for nearly three years.
