A QUARTET of Sarnians competed at the weekend in the first major tournament of the season – the England Squash Grand Prix event held at Edgbaston Priory, Birmingham, and Birmingham University.

With the top 32 players within each age group competing in this Monrad competition, it provided the players with some great experience and tough competition.

Four girls, all from Ladies’ College, were invited to this prestigious gold event – Natalie Dodd and Issey Norman-Ross in the under-17s, Amy Stenner in the under-15 event and Katherine Jensen in the under-13 event.

The best performer of the weekend was Jensen, convincingly winning her first two matches to place her in the top-eight play-offs. In the final pool she competed against Alicia Mead, the number one seed, and Rhianne O’Donnell, currently number five in England. Despite losing both matches she competed extremely well.

Jensen ended the competition in eighth place, which was in keeping with her national ranking.
