CHRIS HARVEY (pictured) was third in the Kayak Surf World Cup Finals for the third year in a row.
‘Third in the world is not a bad result at all and three years in a row demonstrates that I’m consistently at the top of the sport,’ said the Guernseyman. ‘[But] I’d be lying if I said I was not a bit disappointed as I was definitely aiming for the gold.’
The competition was held recently in the island of Ile D’Oleron off the French coast. Harvey’s first round went well as he landed a number of his trademark aerial moves in only six inches of water to see him log the highest score of the day.
However, the contest was then hit by flat conditions that did not let up all week. That was until the final day when a new swell arrived bringing 3ft waves.
Harvey progressed to the quarter-finals, but the closeout conditions meant it was very much a lottery and very tough to compete in.
Harvey went on to the semis but failed to find any decent waves within the 14min. heat to see him take bronze again.
