We have put Herm into good hands, say agents who sold it

0398650.jpgHERM is in good hands, according to the estate agents who negotiated the sale. Martel Maides was appointed in May to find a buyer for the remaining 40-year lease on the island.

They dealt with 81 serious enquiries, several from people who  entered into negotiations including one or two high-profile potential buyers. But director Nick Renny (pictured) said the intention had always been to find the right buyer, not just the highest bidder.

‘It was always going to attract a great deal of serious interest. However, our job was to find the right buyer, and we believe we have done just that.

‘The new tenants have given a firm commitment to the States of Guernsey to uphold the terms of the lease and to continue the fine work of the Wood and Heyworth family. That means Herm, which is such a special place in the hearts of islanders, will be in good hands.’

He confirmed that the price paid was considerably less than the reported guide price of £15m.
