Williams victorious in Sark’s September event

GLYN WILLIAMS has won Sark AC’s September competition, a 24-hour roving shore event.

His winning catch was 24 garfish, eight mackerel, three scad, three black bream and one conger for a weight of 22-0-0 and 156 points.

The weight of the conger, which was 15-3-0, was not recorded, for the club award 30 straight points for this species, irrespective of the size.

The event attracted 11 members and eight brought fish to the scales. The total catch, which contained eight different species, consisted of 53 garfish, 37 mackerel, 18 scad, 11 black bream, two conger, one lesser-spotted dogfish, two red mullet and two Couch’s sea bream.

Championship leader Liz Dewe finished in second spot with five black bream, four mackerel, four garfish and two scad for 10-10-0 and 100.5 points. Her score included bonus points for breaking the club’s mackerel record, a fish of 1-0-0. Dave Brehaut, in third place, had six different species. He landed two Couch’s sea bream, two black bream, two red mullet, seven mackerel, six scad and six garfish for a weight of 15-10-0 and 98.5 points.
