TOM SCOTT staged a dramatic comeback to reclaim the Brittany Trials Championship.  The 25-year-old local rider, who has been plagued by knee problems for the last two seasons, led throughout the season before claiming the final event in Breal.

‘When I came back for the first event I wasn’t expecting to win it, but when I did, it gave me the confidence to really train hard and build my season,’ he said.  Scott, who also competed in the British Championship several years ago, found his experience invaluable in the torrential conditions earlier this year.

‘I think my experience from competing in Ireland and Scotland gave me the edge in the mud over the French riders,’ he said.

This experience enabled Scott to build a substantial lead over his main rival Romain Jezegou, who, like Scott, is known for his ability with big rock steps.

But his bid to win back his 2005 title looked doomed six weeks ago when he fell during a local hill climb event and tore ligaments in his shoulder.
