0394365.jpgUNDER their new name of Sportingbet Guernsey the island’s senior men’s table tennis team enjoyed their best ever weekend at British League level.

They emerged top of round one in Division Two South, leading on games difference from Mossford. The team of Garry Dodd, Scott Romeril, Phil Ogier and Olly Langlois (pictured) returned from Horsham with three wins and a draw much to the delight of Ogier, their captain and most experienced player.

‘We didn’t really know what to expect this year in terms of standard having moved to a different region, but after the first weekend of matches I’d predict it is going to be a very tight division.

‘It is early days, but it looks as if there will be three or four teams in with a shout of promotion and if we can show consistency, we should be in the mix.’

Ogier said the opportunity to play in the ladder was important for player development.

‘Having the opportunity to travel off the island to play at a higher level is great motivation for the team and I know how keen the guys are to progress up the leagues.  So a big thank you goes out to our new sponsors.’
