GUERNSEY are finally up and running in London Three South-West. Following two away defeats to start their campaign, the Greens turned in an outstanding opening 50 minutes on their first appearance of the season at Foote’s Lane to ensure victory over Winchester.
However, having established a 26-0 lead in that time, the hosts spent much of the last half-hour on the back foot and the visitors eventually got the converted try their efforts deserved.
But it was a satisfied Guernsey captain Simon Sharrott afterwards. ‘The positives are that it is a win and puts our season back on track,’ he said.
‘In that first 40 we dominated them in all areas of the park and we have got to work on that because we have got another tough game on the road next week.’
Sharrott admitted, though, that his side had switched off once they had scored their fourth and final try.
‘Once that try went in the boys thought the game was over and done with. Winchester got a sniff of a chance then and played in our half for the rest of the game, although, to be fair, our defence held out well.’
