Adam hits ‘ton’ No. 2

0498698.jpgADAM SHORTO has made back-to-back league centuries for the second successive season. Twelve months ago, he set the local snooker scene alight with successive tons, a feat that was to earn him the Guernsey Press Sporting Achievement-of-the-Year award.

This season, Shorto (pictured) has started in similar fashion, with a third-frame ton complementing his 111 made in the previous week.

Already 2-0 up against Graham Peel in the individual league, the mercurial left-hander hit a superb 103 clearance and backed it up with further efforts of 47 and 51 to take maximum points.  Few will want to meet Shorto on this form and yesterday he admitted that he has already re-evaluated his targets for the season.

‘I’ve had a target of one or two [centuries] per season, but having had two in the first two weeks, I’d like to reset my target and get five.’

He points to the preparations for the recent amateur nationals as the catalyst for his good form.  ‘The match play brings your game up a few levels.’
