THE Tackle Direct Children’s Open shore competition organised by the Bailiwick Bass Club was a huge success. After days of strong north-easterly winds, the event was blessed with a perfect day, no wind and glorious sunshine.

No fewer than 36 youngsters – six girls and 30 boys – entered and were soon spread out over the length of St Peter Port Breakwater.

The winner with a 1-5-14 pollack was Brendon La Touche, who won a rod and reel. The next six young anglers all received a prize of a rod or reel. These were runner-up Annabelle Pizzey, with a 1-5-4 wrasse, Elizjah Eppelein Valencia (1-3-10 wrasse), Alan Branquet (1-3-9 wrasse), Alfie Bentley (1-3-8 wrasse), Cody Cohu (0-12-10 mackerel) and Louis Vinning (0-11-6 wrasse).

All the remaining competitors received Bailiwick Bass Club T-shirts, hats or items of tackle. The total catch on the day was 53 ballan wrasse, one pollack, three mackerel and 21 garfish.

The event was fished on a catch-and-release basis, with all the fish being returned alive.
