HEADED by their star, Australian Liz Kerr, Guernsey’s women basketballers are about to face their biggest challenge.
The Pat Ogier-coached island squad create history at the weekend when they start a full season on the national league ladder, playing in Division Two South of the English League.
Over the next seven months the Guernsey side face travelling to the UK approximately every three weeks, with 11 trips between now and April.
And unlike the Guernsey Rugby Club and the proposed Guernsey United football team, the women basketballers will never truly get to play at home. Their home from home will be in Southampton and every trip away will involve one home and one away game.
