PUBLIC Services is keeping an open mind after visiting three waste facilities in the UK.
Minister Bernard Flouquet has been on a fact-finding mission over the last two days, accompanied by three deputies, three of the department’s officers and an Alderney representative.
‘The board is still keeping an open mind until we have all the tenders,’ said Deputy Flouquet. ‘We have the task of seeing what different technologies could yield. Then we can see what would be right for Guernsey.’
Yesterday, the group went to the Isle of Wight to visit a resource recovery facility. The plant near Newport is one of the first in the UK to use a gasification system.
The site generates 2.3 megawatts of electricity. Of this, 0.5 megawatts is used to power the plant and the remaining power is sold.
