A LARGE crowd and an entry of 40 drivers found a hard, almost stone-free beach waiting for battle at Sunday’s autocross meeting.

The chained pairs for the Guernsey Festival Trophy was a race-long tussle between defending champs the Devil drivers and Leeroy and Snake. The latter pairing eventually won with a push-and-shove move on the last lap, leaving the ex-champs holding second place from a late Beach Boys charge.

Vans, estates and automatics came out for the next race and after Lawrence Harding rolled his minibus into retirement on lap two, the rerun saw the smallest car on the beach claim victory as Sean Murphy’s 998cc Micra auto took the win from Paul de Jersey’s Toyota.

The battles to qualify for the finals came next and eventual winner Peter Jory won race two.

Also in the main race were John Enevoldsen, Doug Le Feuvre and Carl Wallbridge. The last led it but retired two laps from home leaving Jory to lead to the flag.
