SIXTY-ONE teams drove out of the island and now fifty-four cars have returned. The Bubblegum Bangers Rally set out from Guernsey six days ago and since then has travelled across Europe.
While several cars broke down along the way, the drivers endeavoured to finish. Several even hired cars to complete the route.
‘Everyone finished,’ said Mines Awareness Trust founder Ben Remfrey. ‘There was a real sense of camaraderie – It has been great fun.’
The cars travelled through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany before finishing at Lake Geneva in Switzerland on Wednesday. The aim of the event was to raise £25,000 for the Mines Awareness Trust, but organisers believe they have easily surpassed that target.
‘We haven’t had a complete tot-up yet,’ said rally organiser Brin Harrison. ‘We have beaten our target. Everyone has put in a lot of effort.’
