Co-operation between islands is the key topic

CO-OPERATION between Guernsey and Jersey dominated the discussion at last night’s Institute of Directors annual debate.
While panellists also answered questions about the economic landscape, EU issues and cabinet government, they kept returning to the relationship between the two islands.
The general feeling was that there was potential to increase business efficiency by working together, but there was not the political will to make it happen.
‘When the chips are down, perhaps on a constitutional level, we stick up well for each other, but we are still competitors,’ said Jersey’s assistant Home Affairs minister Deputy Andrew Lewis (pictured). ‘There is no body that meets regularly between the two islands, so maybe now is the time to form a commission to do that.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
It is very necessary for Guernsey and Jersey to be competitive but at the same time to have complete inter-island co-operation, for the future good standing of the Channel Islands.
This is a 21st Century view – the long established outdated rivalries must be side lined.
