THE Harvey brothers, Adam and Chris, both claimed a bronze medal in their World Cup finals category after Guernsey had finished a respectable third in the British Canoe Union Surf Kayak Home Internationals.
The biennial team competition for the crown as best surf kayak country in the British Isles was held at Ile d’Oleron near La Rochelle, France. This was the first one for Team Guernsey, who received a very warm welcome from the other surfers and teams.
A rest of the world team gave surfers from the USA, Brazil and France the opportunity to surf competitive heats before the World Cup finals, which were being run at the same venue. The sun shone all week at Vert Bois and waves in the first half of the week allowed most of the heats to be completed with good conditions.
The Guernsey team played a key role in the overall results, with team members surfing very well in the high-performance heats, placing second in most and beating Jersey and the rest of the world surfers.
