The big two sidelined
Friday 3rd October 2008, 2:30PM BST.
SIX newcomers will make their Guernsey debut tomorrow night in the electric atmosphere of a Beau Sejour open show.
But there will be no Matt Jennings or the hard-hitting Latvian, Bruno Bigelis. Amalgamated Boys’ Club coach Graham Guilbert (pictured) was delighted to report that more than a third of the 15-bout card against the North of England Select is made up of first-timers.
‘There are three [new] juniors and three seniors. They have all been training hard, four times a week and have put in an enormous amount of work,’ he said.
‘It’s an awesome atmosphere at an open show. The boxers who have already boxed in one perform better because of it and we have been showing the new boys a DVD of it because they do not know what to expect. There is always a bit more excitement [at open shows].’
Tom Duff will top the bill, while James Woolnough is set to be involved in another cracker against Tommy McGuckin.
