SARNIAN Jo Hamon just missed out on a medal at the British National Track Cycling Championships at the Manchester Velodrome.

But she has made sufficient impact for the Guernsey Velo Club to introduce a women’s qualifying track standard for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, where she hopes to compete for her native island.

Relatively unknown to Guernsey cycling, Hamon has high hopes of competing on the indoor boards in Delhi and in Manchester she finished fourth with her teammate, Debbie Capewell, in the women’s team sprint event.

In so doing, they narrowly lost to some strong teams, including the eventual winners – world, Olympic and Commonwealth champion Victoria Pendleton and her promising partner, Anna Blyth.

GVC president Gary Wallbridge said it was only recently the club had been made aware of Hamon’s ability on the track and although not a current GVC member, that was not a barrier to competing in India in two years’ time.
