Four titles and seven finalists for Guernsey

Wednesday 8th October 2008, 2:29PM BST.

SEVEN island players reached the finals of the Hampshire Junior County Closed Squash Championships and four returned home with trophies.

Out of a Guernsey squad of 18 players, county titles went to Jack Turvey (U-10 minis), Niall Adams (U-11s) both mixed, Katherine Jensen (girls U-13) and Issey Norman-Ross (girls combined U-17/U-19) with runners up titles for Natalie Dodd (girls combined U-17/U-19), Amy Stenner (girls U-15) and Jack Tacon (boys U-15).

It was Adams’ and Turvey’s first County Closed and they both swept the floor, shocking their opposition. The top result came from Adams, a newcomer to the tournament scene but worthy of selection having put in hundreds of hours of training and court practice.

He reached the final comfortably and swiftly beat the England number-four-ranked player, leaving shocked faces along the way.
