STRIPES and Nemos emerged victorious as two excellent matches got the Youth Super League under way.
In the opening encounter at the Grammar School, Stripes, the ‘daughter’ team of Zebras, came up against Cubs, who are linked with Panthers.
In the Stripes line-up was the shooting starlet, Steph Batiste, a young lady with great potential, while starting for Cubs was another young shooter with great potential, Sam Martin, who just needs more self-belief.
In the first quarter, Cubs were unable to convert their shots consistently while Stripes stuck to their task, with every opportunity at goal being taken as they opened an 8-4 lead.
However, Cubs dominated the second period as they played well through the centre court, with defence of Lauren O’Hanlan and Hanah Blondel picking off all the loose balls into the circle and some great interceptions by the other O’Hanlan twin, Becky.
