A RETIRED postman has thanked the emergency services for lifting him out of his window to safety after he fell from his loft.

Graham Skuse, who turns 67 this month, said the St John Ambulance staff and fire crew who rescued him were faultless. ‘They were superb, very professional and good-humoured. Just brilliant,’ he said.

Mr Skuse fell about seven feet and bounced off the balustrade of his staircase after the ladder that led up to his loft leaned to one side and lost its stability. He injured his ribs, shoulders and arms and felt pressure in his lungs.

After his wife Carmen called the ambulance, the medical staff arrived and helped him onto a spinal board.  ‘They kept me going and kept cheerful. They were superb,’ he said.

However, it was soon discovered that the board would not fit down the staircase and so the ambulance crew decided to call the fire service for help.

‘They arrived and lifted me out of my window. They were a great team who I can’t fault in any way, shape or form,’ he said.
