They said I would get my money

A Landsbanki official has been accused of deceiving a Jersey customer who tried to transfer his money from the bank the day before it went into administration.
Avinash Ragoowansi (pictured), a chartered accountant, said the staff member had assured him on Tuesday that his money would be transferred.
‘I was categorically told that I would receive my money the following day by Chaps transfer,’ said the 35-year-old. ‘The reason why he could not send me the monies on that same day was because he wanted to receive a hard copy of my payee details.
‘I have subsequently ascertained that I had actually filled in the required information in on my application form when I opened the account. An officer of Landsbanki actually lied to me.
‘As we all know, it was taken into administration at “midnight”. I work in the finance industry in Jersey and am still trying to work out in my head how the hell they got this done at “midnight”.’
Mr Ragoowansi is one of many Landsbanki Guernsey customers who are campaigning for all money to be returned to depositors.

I too requested our money – on Monday 6 October at 12.30pm. I was told the money would be transferred the following day by CHAPS.
Needless to say, I didn’t get my life savings.
If it is proven that an employee of this bank did this, (calls are afterall reportedly recorded).. One has to wonder.. How many others were similarily misinformed..
Being in the finance industry the complainant was surely aware that his deposit was not secured under any scheme.Perhaps he and indeed any other depositors have forgotten the problems that would have faced depositors with Barings in 1995 if they had not been taken over by ING.
