IT was a big apple day at St Andrew’s yesterday. A huge variety of apple-related games and attractions and apple-based foods were on offer for the crowd that gathered in the sun at Blanchlande College for the event.
Organiser and co-ordinator of St Andrew’s Floral Guernsey Jocelyn Watts said it had been a fantastic way to kick-start the parish’s Britain in Bloom campaign.
‘I think we have had more than 1,000 people visit already,’ she said. She thought the crowd had been enjoying what was on offer.
‘People have eaten, smelt and learnt about apples in more ways, shapes and forms than they could have imagined,’ she said. ‘There are apple sausages, four kinds of apple ice-creams, apple- smoked cheese, apple sweets, jams, cakes, pancakes and biscuits and that’s just the food.’
There were also amusement stands, apple and flower arrangements, experts offering advice and guided walks through the cider orchard and visits to where it was being made.
