GUERNSEY’S interest in the Wheway Cup is over for another year. Two quarter-finals in Jersey on Saturday conspired to leave two of our Division One championship contenders returning home with their tails firmly between their legs.
Worst hit were North who incredibly found themselves 5-0 down and heading out of the cup after just 30 minutes against an impressive and razor-sharp St Paul’s. The Jersey side had only six chances in that opening half-hour but slotted home five of them.
To make matters worse for the visitors, Glyn Dyer limped off with a damaged hamstring and is expected to be out for several weeks.
St Martin’s made a better fist of things against Grouville and led through a Dominic Heaume strike. But a Sam Rowe own goal five minutes into the second half levelled the tie and Saints then conceded three more before the final whistle.
At Port Soif, Sylvans notched their second win of the campaign with a 3-1 win over Rovers.
