GUERNSEY drivers gave a good account of themselves in the Jersey Rally at the weekend. All nine who took part managed to finish.
‘It was an absolutely brilliant weekend,’ said Guernsey competitor John Le Cheminant, who has missed only one Jersey Rally in 14 years. ‘My hat goes off to the way they organised it. There were a lot of people out watching it.’
It was certainly tiring for the drivers. The action started at 9.45am on Friday, with the last stage that day taking place after 11pm.
Saturday’s began at 7.30am, with the competition eventually coming to a close at 6pm.
Le Cheminant, in his Ford Escort G3 with his co-driver of the last three years, Peter Jory, who himself is an accomplished hill climb driver, came home in 49th spot out of 58 finishers.
A total of 18 competitors were forced to retire over the weekend.
‘I was quite chuffed,’ said Le Cheminant. ‘We were going for a hat-trick of finishes and we got it.’
