Four times the drink limit and warned by police, but still he drove

Thursday 16th October 2008, 2:29PM BST.

A BUILDER was more than four times the drink-drive limit when police stopped him in his van on Tuesday evening.

Gary Ogier, 52, of The Chalet, Les Prins Lane, Portinfer, Vale, yesterday admitted drink-driving and was remanded in custody.

Inspector Paul Yabsley told the Magistrate’s Court that officers were called to a domestic dispute at Sunnycroft in the Grange at about 9.25pm.

Ogier had not been involved and officers told him to leave, warning him not to drive. As police were leaving Sunnycroft, they expected to see Ogier walking in the Grange but could not.

One officer went into the neighbouring Lukis House car park and heard a vehicle engine being started at the far end. A white van approached with Ogier at the wheel.  He had said: ‘I just want to go home. I do love her, you know.’

After failing a roadside breath test, Ogier was arrested. He was taken to the police station where a test revealed 144 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of his breath. The limit is 35.

Sentencing was adjourned for reports to be prepared.

First & foremost I wish to make it clear that I don’t condone DUI.

My only point is why has this irresponsible person, been found guilty of an offence when he was not on a public highway?

Seems strange why he admitted an offence when one had not actually yet been comitted.

Strange why he is in custody?

I still can’t believe that in this day and age people still drink and drive. Why ?

This chap said he wanted to get home, taxi maybe ? I’m just glad the police stopped him before he was on the road.
