GFA not yet looking past Island Games

THE Guernsey Football Association have denied that in the face of Guernsey United they are entering the island’s senior men’s team into the South East Counties Championship.
Word has been going around the local footballing circles that the GFA, under pressure from the new club, are putting the island side into the county league from next season.
However, GFA chairman Mark Le Tissier (pictured) denied that this was the case.
‘There’s nothing like that at all,’ he said. ‘We’re looking to get this season working at the moment with the Easter festival and the Island Games.’
Guernsey played in the South and West Counties Championships for nine seasons until a lack of interest among supporters and players forced the GFA to pull the team out last year.
The competition has subsequently folded and a void has been created for the island side as they no longer have regular competitive matches.
