A NEW care home at L’Aumone is one tile closer to completion after a topping-out ceremony yesterday.

Maison de Quetteville has been designed for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia and is being paid for in part by donations to the Maison Million Home Appeal. Building reached foundation stone level in May and the builders are now ahead of schedule.

Chairman of Methodist Homes for the Aged (Guernsey) Paul Le Boutillier conquered his fear of heights to place the final roof tile at yesterday’s ceremony.

‘I have no roofing experience,’ he said. But I hear they are making it easy for me. However, I do suffer from vertigo, so it will be a challenge.’

He was very impressed with how the building is coming together. ‘It is tremendous. The building is coming on in leaps and bounds. We are delighted with how it has gone.’
