Litter lout threatened to headbutt a special
Wednesday 22nd October 2008, 2:29PM BST.
A SPECIAL constable was threatened after an incident involving a discarded plastic bottle escalated.
Prosecuting advocate Chris Dunford told the Magistrate’s Court yesterday that Dave Sheppard had been walking on the Bridge, St Sampson’s, when he saw Zak Gill remove the bottle from a plastic bag and throw it onto the ground.
When he asked Gill to pick it up, the 20-year-old refused and swore at him. Mr Sheppard showed Gill his badge and said he would call the police.
‘If you don’t get out of my face, I will nut you,’ Gill told him.
Gill and his friend walked off towards Nocq Road. Mr Sheppard followed them after having called the police. Gill eventually said he would pick up the bottle when he came out of the Co-op and he and his friend went into the store. Police had arrived by the time they came out. The defendant’s friend picked up the bottle.
Assistant-Magistrate Philip Robey said it had been an example of aggressive, offensive and nasty behaviour. It would have been upsetting to Mr Sheppard and anyone else who saw it.
But he said Gill had cooperated with the Probation Service, had found accommodation and was keen to find a job and he did not wish to ‘put him back’. He sentenced Gill to 21 days’ youth detention, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £50 in witness fees to Mr Sheppard.
The prosecution offered no evidence on a summons of dropping litter in a public place, which Gill had also denied.

It is of some consolation that he threatened to use his thick head rather than pull a knife.

Have you heard of HUMAN RIGHTS?
Times change. People have to change with them.
Something most definately needs to be done because there is a massive lack of respect all around with some of the youth of today.
I think that a lot of it stems from single parent families and a break down in good old fashioned family values.
The average family don’t even eat at a dinner table any more?
Whipping kids with a birch would do absolutely no good. To the majority of the kids in question tat would be a soft option. Many are used to a lot worse from those that claim to be parents.
A army style bootcamp may be of help and possibly a step into the forces for some with too much time on their hands?

Are these anti-social crimes more or less serious than a few dogs fighting and a young kennel owner making a stupid mistake?
Where is the torrent of abuse for these idiots who wish to destroy island life by instilling fear in the community? Where are the ranting, SHOUTY missives?
Does that mean that all those that contributed to the tired ‘string up the dog burier’ are supportive of these thugs?
Where are your pitchforks now? Hmm?

I think people are wanting to let go of this now.
Lots of peple are animal lovers ad it is understandable that feelings have run high but it is time everyone let it rest.
Some dogs are blood thirsty and it takes only a few seconds distraction for this scenario to happen again.
I personally feel the dogs in question are more to blame than the kennel owner. These animals should be monitored at least by an expert in my opinion.
Could everybody respect what is done, is done.
