MIDWIVES at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital have been seeing double.

An unusually high number of twins has been born so far this year – up to the end of September, among the 489 babies born, there were 10 sets of twins.

So far this month, there have already been 42 deliveries including two sets of twins in the same week. Anika Blondel, 21, a stylist at Tina’s Hair Salon, and partner Robert Houilbecq, 24, the manager at Mick’s Fishing Supplies, were surprised to discover they were expecting two babies.

Alfie and Archie were born by Caesarean section in the early hours of Sunday. Archie, 5lb 8oz, was first at 1.26am with Alfie, 4lb 7oz, following a minute later. They were born at 37-and-a-half weeks, with a due date of 8 November.

On average, 50 babies are born a month but last week seven were delivered in just 24 hours. Helen Kelso, head of midwifery at the hospital, said that while the September and October figures were high, there had been a particularly busy month earlier in the year.

‘In May there were 68 babies born, including three sets of twins all at the same time.’

Great news!! We need to make more children to keep Guernsey and the UK from aging problems!

It’s already plaguing Europe and we may just have to rely on immigration all together.

Do you honestly want more guest workers from Africa who don’t speak English coming here?

Not trying to offend but let’s have more children. It’s our life duty on Earth

Are you blind? One look around town is enough to reasure you that there is pram faced teenage single mothers everywhere. These people are a drain on this island as well as everywhere else. They receive social housing, Social Security benefits, free health benefits and the list goes on and on. We have more than enough feral kids being dragged up by single mothers. If you have a nice car park it down the Bouet for a few days and then when you pick it up I would like you to make further comment. My opinion is people need to be educated on the importance of starting a family and also how to make it work. For some young females a baby is an accessory which enables them to receive a place of their own and an income with a way out of their miserable lives which they are only too happy to repeat by going down the same road as their single drug abusing or alcoholic mothers.
