Animals near to the protection of a law

0464966.jpgGUERNSEY is a step closer to having an animal welfare law. Yesterday morning, it was registered in the Royal Court after having been referred back by the Privy Council.

Campaigner Enid Campbell-White (pictured), who has been pushing for a law, said she was delighted.

‘I feel absolutely elated,’ she said. ‘We have waited so long.’

Mrs Campbell-White will soon be meeting Commerce and Employment to discuss the appointment of an inspector to oversee the law.

The legislation means that people who set up a cattery or kennel will be given a licence. If they are found to be not looking after the animals in their care, the inspector has the right to revoke the licence.

‘We’ve not had this before and it’s a very good thing to have this law,’ she said. ‘Appointing an inspector will be quite a difficult thing to do. I do not think the animal charities should be involved at all because it would not be fair to either of them.’

About time too!!!!! Had this been implemented much early maybe the situation that occurred with Jessica Valpied would not have happened.

Can you and others drop this now? The young girl made a mistake and people are trying to make her out to be an evil murderer. Everybody respect the fact that what is done is done. This is so boring now. We have all made mistakes that we would rather forget but then again this is Guernsey the land of the perfect!
